Meet the Animals

Lola

Lola is a sweet and energetic Potbelly-Julianna pig born in July 2020 in Santa Rosa, CA.  She came to live at LakeFarm shortly after birth, but spent many of her early nights and days hanging around inside with her humans and a friend dog.  She loves to eat basically EVERYTHING, especially pears, apples, grass, hay, and any vegetables.  She will even eat banana peels! For some reason, she is opposed to carrots.

For fun, she likes to go out in the pasture and graze alongside the horses. Her secret talent: She knows how to sit, twirl, and stand up on her two back legs!

Louie

Louie is a relaxed, chill Julianna pig born in January, 2020 on a ranch in Napa, CA.  He came to live at Lakefarm in February, 2022, so is still getting used to the new place.  He and Lola are getting to be good buddies, but they have been known to argue from time to time about food.  He seems to like eating everything – even carrots!  His best trick is lying in the sun on a pleasant day.

Justa

Justa is a curious chestnut Arabian Mare born in February, 2016 in El Cajon, CA.  She came to the farm in the fall of 2021.  She loves being around humans, and loves treats like carrots and apples.  She even eats the occasional tortilla chip.  She is trained to ride English and likes to go on trail rides, but is still afraid of many strange things, like small puddles of water, or suspicious looking logs. Her favorite pastime is trotting around the farm with Charleston, her best friend, and grazing alongside him.

Charleston

Charleston is a mellow, but secretly funny chestnut Quarter Horse Gelding. He was born on a ranch near the California-Nevada border in 2014 and was worked hard as a ranch horse, herding cows for many years. His hard work resulted in some injuries and so he came to LakeFarm in November of 2021 for a more relaxed pace of life.  He became instantly smitten with Justa, and he follows her around endlessly. He likes to lay down at night to sleep (unlike many horses), and in the day time loves to graze in the pastures with Justa. He loves, carrots, treats and hay.

Buttercup

Buttercup came from a “laying” egg farm in Petaluma, and retired to LakeFarm in the spring of 2021.  She is very sweet, and after living in a small cage, she loves having so much space to walk around and peck.  She is friendly and will follow humans around to be in the action.  She has been known to hop up into work trucks and find a nice box to nap in!

When out and about, she will sometimes lay eggs in the horse feeding trough! This is rather annoying to Justa, as she tries to avoid eating eggs. Buttercups’ eggs are brown, and surprisingly large – a skill she must have learned at the hatchery!

Mica

Mica was born in the spring of 2021 and came to live at the farm as a baby chick.  She was brought up around humans and other chickens and is very social.  She loves to fly up and perch on anything high up so she can get a good view.  She lays small blue-green eggs, that seem fancy and delicate.  She likes tomatoes and mealworms as a special treat.
